The “I” can never quite be erased, until the writing itself is.
Interview, Stress Points
My poetry is founded on rigorous honesty. Like many, I began writing to make sense of what was happening to me and how I felt about it. Later I discovered how a poem could reflect the deeper structures of the spirit and the mind.
I have tried to practice a poetry of unmediated authenticity. I believe that the poem embodies the self in the physical act of writing letters, syllables, and words. Poetry is the making and remaking of the self.
